Burkina Faso: Two Moroccan Cyclists Reported Missing

Two Moroccan Cyclists Reported Missing In Burkina Faso.

A Moroccan diplomatic source said on Friday that two Moroccan cyclists have been missing for several days on the border between Burkina Faso and Niger.

Abderrahmane Serhani, age 65, and Driss Fatihi, age 37, haven't been seen or heard from since crossing into Burkina Faso from Côte d'Ivoire and heading into Niger, according to the source.

In January, they left Morocco. On March 29, one of them claimed to be leaving for Burkina in a video that he posted on his Facebook page.

According to the MAP news agency, the Moroccan embassy in Burkina is working "closely in coordination" with local law enforcement to locate the two cyclists.

According to NGOs, a wave of jihadist violence that began in the north of Burkina Faso in 2015 has caused more than 10,000 deaths, including soldiers and civilians, and two million displacements.
