Businessman Docked For Bypassing Electric Metre In Osogbo

An Osogbo-based businessman, Yusuf Adegboyega has been dragged before the Federal High Court for allegedly bypassing an electricity metre belonging to Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

Adegboyega was arraigned before Justice Emmanuel Ayoola by the Osun Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

He was docked on one count charge of felony to wit: with Meter by-pass.

The accused committed the offence on August 12, 2022, at Plot 4, Olu Alabi Way, GRA, Osogbo, Osun State capital.

Prosection Counsels, T.J Ajayi had told the court that the accused was arrested for allegedly tampering with the IBEDC meter.

"The alleged offence was contrary to Section 1(10) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act Cap M17 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and punishable under the same Section."

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the allegation slammed against him.

Defence Counsel, Bidemi Olumide applied for the bail of the accused in the most liberal term.

He told the court that the defendant had already filed a bail application dated January 17, 2023.

The presiding judge, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola granted the defendant bail in the sum of 1Million Naira with one surety in the like sum.

While adding that the surety must be a businessman residing within the jurisdiction of the court, he adjourned the case till February 28, 2023, for a hearing.
