Feelers from the media in Morocco indicate that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are in broad consultations with the big stakeholders in the game to discuss the timing for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, Allnews.ng reports.

Federation of International Football Association president Gianni Infantino was ever present during the recently concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire and is keen to see the revamped FIFA Club World Cup a success in the USA next year.

Morocco have opted to host the tournament in the summer of 2025 in tandem with FIFA and UEFA calendars.

Fellow north African nation Egypt hosted the tournament in the summer of 2019.

Morocco World News has quoted CAF Secretary-general Veron Mosengo-Omba as saying that CAF and the Morocco football officials have held talks with FIFA and the European Clubs Association to settle for the best possible date.

“In order to see when we have the final [we] need also to meet the players. They need to rest after this competition. So the discussion is still ongoing,” Mosengo-Omba noted.

A member of the competitions committee told AFP, speaking on condition of anonymity, that there was “an agreement in principle between CAF and the Moroccan Football Federation for the AFCON to be held during the summer, more precisely in July and August” 2025.

“This agreement was found with the support of FIFA after talks that began several months ago and which intensified during the last edition which finished this month in Ivory Coast,” the source added.

According to information revealed by Wikipedia, the tentative date proposed for the tournament are July 20-August 16 or 17, 2025.
