Cambodian Curfew Violators Made To Run As Punishment

Police in Cambodia’s capital punished violators of the city’s 8 p.m. curfew introduced to contain the pandemic by making them run laps of a roundabout.

They imposed the measure late last week, Khmer Times newspaper reported on Monday.

The penalty came as the country grapples with a COVID-19 outbreak responsible for almost 20,000 cases in less than three months.

Some 500 new cases were reported on Monday.

Officers in the district of Chroy Changvar in Phnom Penh’s northeast, however, deployed the exercise as a deterrent, reported local outlet Koh Santepheap.

People caught driving after 8 p.m. on Friday were made to run 10 laps of the area’s sizeable roundabout to teach them a lesson, according to the report.

Cambodia on Monday reported 506 new cases and six deaths due to COVID-19.
