Camp update: 18 Super Falcons in camp for Olympics qualifier

The camp of the Super Falcons are in buoyant mood on Wednesday morning ahead of Friday's 2024 Olympics Games qualifier against the Bayana Bayana of South Africa with 18 players in town, reports AllNews.ng.

The quartet of Halimatu Ayinde, Michelle Alozie, Toni Payne and Rinsola Babajide swelled the number of players in camp late Tuedy night.

The nine-time African champions are keen on qualification to the Games after their last appearance at the 2008 Games in Beijing.

The Falcons will face South Africa in the first leg game at the MKO Abiola stadium on Friday before next Wednesday's reverse leg.

The African champions, South Africa, have already touched down in Abuja on Sunday with a large contingent comprised mostly of players strutting their talents in the domestic league.

Nigeria will be without Saudi Arabia-based defender Ashleigh Plumptre who has copped an injury playing for her club, Al Ittihad. 

The Anglo-Nigerian has been replaced by Jumoke Alani while five-time African Footballer of the Year winner, Assist Oshoala is billed to arrive on Thursday.

The 14 Falcons players in the national team camp at breakfast time on Tuesday include: Linda Jiwuaku,  Chidinma  Okeke, Oladipo Shukurat, Chiamaka Nnadozie,  Osinachi Ohale, Uchenna Kanu, Gift Monday, Deborah Abiodun, Jennifer Echegini  and Christy Ucheibe.

The winner of the two-legged fixtures will play in Group C of the football tournament of the Olympics that contains Brazil, Spain and Japan.
