Can Nigeria get best of Equatorial Guinea in AFCON opening match?

Can Nigeria get best of Equatorial Guinea in AFCON opening m

Nigeria would be up against the Equatorial Guinea side in the AFCON opener and many people (from the fans to the pundits) are wondering if Nigeria would be able to get the better of their opposition in this one.

It looks interesting to see the supposed giants of Africa taking on the improved but modest African side Equatorial Guinea in the Match day two contest.

José Peseiro would hope the team starts the AFCON tournament on a winning note as pressure beckons on the Super Eagles following their 2-0 loss to Guinea in a friendly international last week.

The team would be without the talent of Wilfred Ndidi, Victor Boniface and Umar Sadiq in the mix. While other quality options like Chuba Akpom, Kelechi Nwakali and Chidera Ejuke were not considered for the AFCON team list.

However, the stage is set for the West African giants to live-up to be billing. It promises to be a special one with the quality Nigeria parades as a team.

Despite the injury challenges that seem to damn the Eagles team spirit, there's more reason to be optimistic ahead of this one.

Nigeria may not have been outstanding in recent games as we have seen especially under Portuguese boss Jose Peseiro.

But can the team make amends with a quality performance when they file out against their counterpart Equatorial Guinea.

Nigeria have had goalkeeping crisis in recent times and who would be in between will be of great interest.

While the midfield personnel selected must put up a good fight in the bid to satisfy Nigeria's midfield desire, that's a region that have lacked creativity and true dynamism in the last couple of years.

Nigeria would be keen to see how it happens while Equatorial Guinea are not coming to make up the numbers. The fact that Nigeria is not in top form could give Equatorial Guinea a bragging right in this one.

But the Super Eagles have got the class to put the game beyond doubt even at half-time despite Nigeria's (Jose Peseiro) supposed technical deficiency.

Nigeria can secure the win if the likes of Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman come to the party in this match.

Meanwhile, William Troost-Ekong, Semi Ajayi and Ola Aina must be brilliant at the back to curtail any attacking move the opposition will bring on the pitch as the game gets underway in about time in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
