Capitol Riot: Pope Francis Sends Message To US Government

Pope Francis has advised the United States government to promote national reconciliation and protect the democratic values rooted in the American society.

The pontiff's call is in response to the recent breach of the Capitol Hill by hoodlums loyal to President Donald Trump.

He extended an affectionate greeting to the people of the United States of America, shaken by the recent dramatic moments.

“I pray for those who lost their lives.”

Recall Trump's supporters stormed the seat of the U.S Capitol and clashed with police, leading to the death of five persons.

The Pope warned that violence is always “self-destructive and nothing is gained with it.

“I was astonished,” by the attack on Capitol Hill because Americans are people so disciplined in democracy.

“Even in the most mature society, things can go wrong, and some people take a path against the community, against democracy, against the common good.”

Pope Francis asked the Virgin Mary, the patroness of the United States, to help “keep alive the culture of encounter” and “the culture of care” so that Americans can “build the common good together.”
