Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe says his side will face "the ultimate test" when they take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup third round.
The Magpies will lock horns with City at St James' Park on Wednesday night, and are aiming to make it all the way to Wembley, having lost last season's final to Manchester United.
Speaking before the visit of last season's Treble-winners, Howe said: "It seems a long time ago now, you have to go to some tough places in the early rounds.
"We have got the ultimate test coming up in the first round this year, so it's totally different tie to last year.
"We will give it every importance, we will try as hard as we can to progress because we want to try to compete in every competition.
"We're certainly not dismissing it as anything other than the most important game."
