England U-21 coach Lee Carsley was named on Friday afternoon by the Football Association in England as the interim coach of the men's senior national team.
The Three Lions finished in second place at the Euro 2024 tournament in Germany after losing 2-1 to Spain making it the second consecutive final the team would reach.
The English side lost via penalties to Italy in the Euro 2020 final but despite being the most successful English coach after Alfie Ramsey guided the country to a World Cup triumph in 1966, Gareth Southgate was jeered by fans during the Euros leading to his resignation.
Despite links to several English and foreign coaches, mostly those with coaching stints in the Premier League, Carsley will now be in charge of September's Nations League games as the search for Gareth Southgate's substantive successor continues.
Southgate was also a former coach of the England U-21 setup when he was appointed on an interim basis in 2016 as a replacement for Sam Allardyce.
