#Challenge Accepted: What To Know About Trending Black And White Photos

#Challenge Accepted: What To Know About Trending Black And W

For the past few days, the social media media community, Instagram precisely has been flooded with black and white photos with the hashtag #ChallengeAccepted where partakers nominate others to take it up and the chain goes on and on.

Although, the social media community is not new to different challenges that suddenly spring up with both genders jumping on them, this particular challenge is only taken by women who share black and white photos with captions that uphold the female gender.

The questions many have continued to ask is, what is the essence of the challenge? Thankfully, some who have taken it up, have been able to shed light on it.

Well, you must have been wondering why your timeline is flooded with black and white photos with message of solidarity, even though many do not take out time to read captions. The sole aim is to empower the female gender, make them show support for one another, help themselves come put from their shells.

A host of top celebrities have already taken part, including Khloe Kardashian, Genevieve Nnaji, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham among others and has taken over Instagram, with over 5 million trends hashtags.

Sometime in 2016, a similar challenge circulated, but was to create cancer. Well, while what triggered the challenge this time is unclear, it might be as a result of a US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who recently spoke against fellow Representative Ted Yoho’s sexist remarks against her on the Congress floor last week, which led to a spike in feminist posts on social media. Another was Turkish women who raised awareness of femicide.

#challengeaccepted thanks @genevievennaji for nominating me. I have a great respect for women who support other women! Let’s keep the fire burning! #womensupportingwomen

The main goal of the challenge was also explained by legendary actress Genevieve who slammed actor Deyemi Okanlawon for joking about it.

Deyemi had shared a photoshopped image with the caption “#challengeaccepted... We rise by lifting others! Thanks to all my style muses for NOT nominating me!”

But, this didn't go well with Genevieve, who recently stirred reactions after she declared that "My own feminism is just human rights. I'm a woman who has rights to her own choices. I can do whatever I want whenever I want. It's just that simple. If I were a man it would be the same thing.”

In her response, she said the movement can only be understood by the female gender, while citing “the feeling of being overlooked or disregarded” as part of the point of the challenge.

“We seek solace in humour to distract us from pain or discomfort. Tell me what it is you feel exactly? You see, that feeling that triggered you to make a joke of a movement that can only be understood by those it was meant for; the feeling of being overlooked or disregarded is part of the point of the challenge. No one likes to feel invisible. You felt it for a second. Women feel it every day of their lives. Let us hold our own hands if we want to. Be ok with it. Not everything is about you or for laughs. Shalom.”
