Champions League Success Will Judge My Time At Man City — Guardiola

Champions League Success Will Judge My Time At Man City —

Pep Guardiola admits that his time at Manchester City will be judged by winning the Champions League.

The Spanish manager has won nine major trophies since he arrived at the Etihad in 2016 but European success has eluded him.

City's best finish under his watch was being runners-up in 2021, losing to Chelsea 1-0 in the Champions League final.

Addressing a news conference ahead of Tuesday's second-leg last-16 tie with RB Leipzig, Guardiola gave a pretty straightforward answer to whether his time at City will be judged by whether he wins the Champions League or not.

"Yes, that doesn't mean I agree with that, but absolutely I will be judged for that competition," said the Spaniard who coached Barcelona to win the Champions League twice.

"My first Champions League game here (in 2016), they asked, ‘Are you here to win the Champions League?’

"If I was manager for Real Madrid I could understand, but I accept it.

"As much as we go through, it’s not going to change that.”

City who play host to RB Leipzig have everything to play for if they wish to reach the last eight and stay on course to win the title.

They are level on aggregate with the German outfit having played a 1-1 draw in the first-leg away from home.

A win is all they need now to advance to the next round as the away goal rule no longer counts even if the scores are tied after both legs.
