Amid the spate of divorces recorded in the Nigerian entertainment industry, with more than ten cases recorded only in 2023, some couples have proven that real connections can survive the ups and downs that come with fame.

Veteran singer, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa popularly known as Charly Boy and his wife Dianne Oputa are arguably the longest-standing married couple in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Charly boy narrated that he met his African-American wife in 1974 in a salon in Boston, United States. 

According to the maverick entertainer, he and his wife "unceremoniously went to a registry in Owerri, Imo State and got married" without his parent's knowledge because they wanted him to marry a Nigerian.

The couple who have been married for over 45 years renewed their marital vows in 2018 in a low-key ceremony held in Abuja. 

Although Charly Boy has other children from different mothers, he clarified that, “Lady Diane is now the mother of all my children. We have 16 grandchildren.”

Olu Jacob & Joke Silva

Nollywood's oldest powerful couple, Olu Jacob and Joke Silva got married in 1986 and their marriage is blessed with three children, one of whom is late.

The couple have remained strong despite the rough patches including losing a child and Olu suffering from Dementia with Lewy body.

Narrating how he met his wife, Olu said: “We were having a management meeting for a play, Wole Soyinka’s Jero Metamorphosis when a young lady walked in. Immediately she walked in, something inside me told me that she was going to be my wife and I told the people around me that I was going to marry her. That was in 1981. In 1986, we got married.

Omotola & Captain Matthew Ekeinde

Popular Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde tied the knot with her husband, Matthew Ekeinde in March 1996 at the age of 18. The union is one of the few which has defied divorce in the entertainment industry despite the scandals.

The award-winning actress' marriage is blessed with four children. Speaking on marriage, Onmotola advised: "A woman must know her place and submit to her husband. The greatest mistake a woman can make is to want to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with her man. When you show submission, your man will respect and adore you for it, "

Popularly known as T.W.O, the Nigerian music couple have been married for over 25 years. The couple started singing together as undergraduates in the 90s. Their union is blessed with three children.

Speaking on combining marriage with their joint business, Wunmi said: "Mainly, our relationship as business partners is different from our relationship as husband and wife. It is a business relationship so everybody brings what they have to the table, we can argue it out and stuffs like that."

Popular gospel singer, Tope Alabi got married to her husband, Olusoji in 2000. Their union is blessed with two girls and one boy.
