Chief Justice Muhammad Tanko Tenders Resignation Amid Corruption Accusation

Chief Justice Muhammad Tanko Tenders Resignation Amid Corrup

Justice Muhammad Tanko has tendered his resignation as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Per a Daily Trust, Tanko resigned amid corruption allegations brought against him by some Supreme Court judges who wrote to him, complaining about their welfare while alleging denial of access to training.

Muhammad was also accused of not giving justices their legitimate entitlements in a protest memo signed by the 14 Supreme Court judges.

According to the justices, their annual foreign training, supposed to enhance capacity building for the country’s judicial process, had been blocked by Muhammad.

The major issues raised by the justices are non-replacement of poor vehicles, accommodation problems, lack of drugs at the Supreme Court clinic, epileptic electricity supply to the Supreme Court, increase in electricity tariff, and no increase in the allowances for diesel; lack of internet services to residences and chambers.
