A magnitude 6.1 earthquake damaged houses and killed at least one person in southwestern China on Wednesday.
The authorities and state media disclosed that there were varying initial reports of casualties.
It was said that one person died and six others were injured in Baoxing county in Sichuan province.
The China Earthquake Network Center said the quake struck at a depth of 17 kilometers in Lushan county, about 110 kilometers southwest of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan.
The Sichuan fire department added that some houses were damaged and the Southwest Railway Authority also said some sections of track were closed, causing delays to passenger trains.
