China Hits Back At US, Says No Evidence COVID-19 Emerged Fro

Following the United States' claims that the novel coronavirus was engineered in a lab in Wuhan, Chinese authorities fire back at the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, stating that he “doesn’t have any” proof.

On Sunday, the US Secretary of State had said that the United States had “enormous evidence” to show that the virus was created in a lab in Wuhan, causing a strain in the relationship between the US and China.

Speaking on the claims, China's Foreign Ministry, Hua Chunying, said, “I think this matter should be handed to scientists and medical professionals, and not politicians, who lie for their own domestic political ends.

“Mr Pompeo repeatedly spoke up but he cannot present any evidence. How can he? Because he doesn’t have any.”

Earlier speculations by scientists suggested that the virus, which saw an emergence from China, was transmitted from animals to humans at a wet market in Wuhan where exotic animals are sold for meat.

In response to the US claims, the World Health Organisation (WHO) described it as "speculative."
