Churches Will Spread "Lord's Joy" Not COVID-19 - Humphrey Olumakaiye

The Bishop of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Lagos, Humphrey Olumakaiye, has stated that the church will be spreading the "joy of the Lord" and not the coronavirus, as members share the same cup during holy communion.

He revealed that the same cup used in Holy Communion for one member was used for all other members and that they cannot contract the disease at "God's holy altar."

Olumakaiye stated this on Wednesday in a statement.

He said, “However, in obedience to all laid down protocols of wearing nose masks, regular washing of hands, physical distancing and so on, our churches have made adequate preparations. In all of these, let the joy of the Lord be our strength because that is what we will be spreading and not any virus."

Recognizing the efforts of the government and health workers in the country in a bid to check the spread of the virus, Olumakaiye said that with all the efforts, “when every other thing or method fails, the church of God, where God’s holy altar is, cannot fail,” as that is the only place the common man can find succor.

He added, “As we congregate in our churches, let us humble ourselves with the assurances that it is only God that can help us. Pray, seek God’s face, and turn from our wicked ways so that the Lord will heal our land of this pandemic."
