Audio discussion app, Clubhouse has abolished its invite-only policy to allow everyone access to its audio chat rooms and to celebrate the breakthrough while also launching a new logo.
The update was announced on Wednesday during Clubhouse’s Town Hall. Users can share links with others and invite them to join, like being vouched for by a regular at an exclusive club.
The company claims there are half a million audio chat rooms on the app each day, and that 10 million people have signed up since the Android app arrived in May. Clubhouse added a direct message system last week and it says the community has already sent 90 million messages. Meanwhile, on average, users are spending over an hour a day on Clubhouse.
All users on Clubhouse's waitlist are being granted immediate access, with the app available to everyone globally on both iOS and Android.
In a blog post published last July, Clubhouse co-founders Paul Davison and Rohan Seth stated that the app's invite system allowed it to grow its community slowly, enabling them to finetune features and fix problems as they arise, as well as putting less strain on their small team. Now it seems they're finally confident enough to throw the doors wide open.
Clubhouse has enjoyed a remarkable profit after it was launched in March 2020 and the Android version being made available worldwide in May. Clubhouse's installation numbers swung up to 3.7 million in May and 7.7 million in June, with 76 percent of June's installs coming from India's marketplaces according to Sensor Tower.
The company also plans to keep things fresh by rolling out big updates every week or two, a flow that's similar to how often other social media apps are updated.
