Colorado funeral home owners arrested in Oklahoma for abuse

A disturbing case involving the discovery of nearly 200 improperly stored and decaying bodies in a Colorado Springs funeral home has led to the arrest of the owners, Jon and Carie Hallford, in Oklahoma.

The shocking incident has raised numerous legal and ethical concerns, resulting in charges related to abuse of a corpse, theft, money laundering, and forgery.

Jon and Carie Hallford, the owners of the Colorado Springs funeral home, were arrested in Wagoner, Oklahoma, on suspicion of multiple felonies, including abuse of a corpse, theft, money laundering, and forgery.

The forgery charge is suspected to be linked to death certificates. Their arrest was a collaborative effort involving various law enforcement agencies, including the FBI's Oklahoma City division.

The case came to light in October 2023 when authorities responded to a report of a foul odour emanating from the Return to Nature Funeral Home.

The grim discovery of decaying bodies prompted an immediate investigation.

Court documents related to the case have been sealed temporarily, emphasizing the sensitivity and gravity of the situation.

The Colorado’s 4th Judicial District Attorney’s office will lead the investigation and prosecution against the Hallfords.
