The Ekiti State Police Commissioner, Tunde Mobayo has paid a visit to the branch of the WEMA Bank, Aramoko-Ekiti, that was the scene of a bank heist and the Divisional Police Command in the town.

The visit of CP Mobayo is geared towards assessing the level of damage done after the daredevil armed men carried out the brutal attack on the commercial bank in the town.

In a press statement signed by Sunday Abutu, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command and which was obtained by AllNews on Wednesday, the CP's visit was also aimed at commiserating with families of the victims.

Recall that on Monday, November 29, 2021, a gang of armed robbers armed with guns and dynamites at about 5:15 pm split themselves into two groups and simultaneously launched an attack on WEMA Bank Aramoko-Ekiti and the Divisional Police Headquarters, Aramoko-Ekiti.

The Ekiti State Police Command's spokesperson revealed that the armed robbers were immediately repelled by personnel of the Police Mobile Force attached to the bank, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and the personnel of the Divisional Police Headquarters, Aramoko-Ekiti.

Abutu also stated that some brave members of the public also assisted and this forced the armed robbers to abandon the two vehicles they used for the operation which are suspected to have been snatched from their owners.

Investigations carried out after the robbery operation revealed that the vault of the bank was not tampered with and no property belonging to the financial institution was taken away by the armed robbery gang.

However, Abutu announced that a policeman serving in the state and a Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Special Marshal on transit was shot dead by the gang while the front security door of the bank and part of the Divisional Police Headquarters’ building was damaged by dynamites.

While acknowledging that the effort to track down the perpetrators is ongoing he implored anyone with useful information that could assist the police in apprehending the perpetrators and other criminal elements in the society to relay the same to the nearest police station or call 08062335577.
