CONFIRMED: Facebook Bans IPOB's Nnamdi Kanu Account

CONFIRMED: Facebook Bans IPOB's Nnamdi Kanu Account

Social networking service company, Facebook have finally blacklisted the account of Biafra political activist, Nnamdi Kanu.

AllNews can confirm that Kanu's account has been banned and deleted for alleged dissemination of fake news, videos and propaganda.

Several persons aversed to Kanu's agenda are believed to have petitioned the social media company, as Kanu uses the platform to make his routine broadcasts.

The diaspora-based leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was billed to make his special broadcast on Tuesday evening. But his teeming followers were unable to listen to his so-called "lecture" on Facebook following the well-timed embargo.

Carolyn Okorafor, Kanu's Principal Secretary confirmed the development through her known Twitter handle on Tuesday.

"MNK's Facebook page is down! Now you know we are doing something right! When the enemy knows your working...they will try to stop you! But as always #WOVE," Okorafor stated.

Also reacting to Kanu's Facebook page ban, Amaka Ekwo, Kanu's former Press Secretary expressed her displeasure.

"@Facebook, tell us why you deleted Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Facebook account? It’s of public interest. Over 50 million Biafrans across the globe visit his page for information relating to the liberation of our people. Please respect freedom of speech. Stop oppressing #Biafra," Ekwo wrote on Wednesday.

Since the creation of the IPOB in 2012, separatists have relentlessly engaged in disinformation campaign on social media.

Kanu is seen in some quaters as toxic.

Videos are most times posted online by Biafra apologists, with bogus captions.

One of such videos was one that started circulating earlier in January, which claimed that an attack on herders in Ebonyi State, South-East Nigeria occured.

On some social media pages, the purported chase was said to have been orchestrated by a vigilante group, Eastern Security Network (ESN). It raised dust, caused panic and tension.

ESN, created by Kanu, said it is intent on 'defending the territories of the region from terrorism and extra-judicial killings'.

AllNews did a fact-check on the video that said that Fulani herdsmen were evicted from their homes in Ebonyi State and rate the video’s claim as incorrect.
