The Ondo State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) was on Thursday thrown into chaos during the election of its executive members.
It was alleged that the dissolved Ondo SWAN Chairman, Wahab Bankole had planned to extend his tenure through the backdoor as the caretaker committee chairman.
The tenure of the current executive had expired in May 2022 and the election had been fixed for October 27.
The Zonal Vice President, Ajayi Obe announced that the election be placed on hold on the grounds of receiving a petition from one of the Chairmanship aspirants, Michael Akintunde.
During a special congress on Thursday, members unanimously dissolved the former state SWAN executives led by Bankole and called for the composition of a caretaker committee to conduct a fresh election.
The news of the suspension of the election was not welcomed by members who expressed grievance when the immediate past chairman Bankole was renominated to become the chairman of the interim committee.
As a result of the disagreement in holding elections and agreeing in having a caretaker committee in place the state chapter of the association is left in a vacuum.
