Conte Fears Losing Coaching Job At Tottenham

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte fears that he could be sacked by club officials following Spurs' exit from the Champions League on Wednesday.

Conte's men lost 1-0 on aggregate to AC Milan to extend the club's dry spell without a major title since 2008.

Their exit rounded off a disastrous week as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United in the FA Cup and lost 1-0 to Wolves in the Premier League.

This poor run of games has prompted fans of the club, who are apparently dismayed with Conte's presence in the dugout, to call for his sack despite that his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

"I have a contract with Tottenham," he said. "I respect the contract.

"At the end of the season, assessments will be made with the club in the most serene way.

"Let's see how the season ends. Maybe they can send me away even earlier.

"Tottenham know very well what my thoughts are and at end of the season, we will meet and make a decision.

"I can't say anything negative about the commitment of the players.

"They gave everything from the start to the end.

"If I have to see a positive situation, it is that we had a step forward - but it is not enough and if we want to be competitive, we have to fight.

"I don't like to lose but it can happen, especially because last season don't forget we played [Europa] Conference League and two years ago Europa League."

The Italian however sympathised with the fans, admonishing them to exercise patience with him.

"I'm really sorry for the fans, " said Conte, who Tottenham appointed as manager in November 2021 and guided the club to a top-four finish last season.

"We cannot invent the win or wait for a miracle one day for a trophy.

"You have to build and have patience. I understand the fans don't have patience because for a long time Tottenham have not been winning.

"What I can promise is my team will work really hard for this club and try to improve."
