AS Roma was eliminated from the Coppa Italia in a 2-1 loss to giant-killing Cremonese on Wednesday.
Cremonese, who have not recorded a win in Serie A this season and currently sit at the bottom of the league table, previously eliminated Napoli in the previous round.
The visitors opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a penalty converted by Cyriel Dessers after Roma's goalkeeper, Rui Patricio, brought him down in the box. Cremonese increased their lead in the 49th minute with an own goal by Roma defender Mehmet Celik after a cross was deflected into the net.
Roma dominated the rest of the second half, but Cremonese stood firm under the pressure, with Tammy Abraham coming closest to scoring for the hosts when he hit the post in the 77th minute. Roma managed to score in the 94th minute through Andrea Belotti, but it was too little too late.
Cremonese will face Fiorentina in the semifinals after they defeated Torino 2-1 on Wednesday, with goals from Luka Jovic and Jonathan Ikone. The semifinals will be played over two legs.
The winner of the quarterfinal between Juventus and Lazio will play Inter Milan, who defeated Atalanta on Tuesday.
