Coronavirus: Airtel Nigeria Removes Charges On SMS

Telecommunication service provider, Airtel, has announced free SMS to all customers to connect with loved ones.

However, the company has added a condition to the number of SMS every customer can send daily to avoid network congestion.

“Free SMS can be sent to all friends and families across any network,”

“Please note a Fair Usage policy applies to prevent network congestion at this time when network stability is paramount to keeping all of us connected”

“Distancing does not mean disconnecting," Airtel said.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami had earlier said; “As the Chair of the National Frequency Management Council established by NCA:2003, Chapter 3, Part 2, we allocate bulk spectrums to regulators for end-users, on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, as conveyed last week, all Network Operators are “urged” to be more GENEROUS to our citizens during #COVID19”.
