Coronavirus: Akwa Ibom Rejects Ten Vehicles Donated By Exxon

Ten vehicles donated by ExxonMobil to Akwa Ibom State for contact tracing of COVID-19 suspected cases have been rejected by the State Government.

According to the state government, the vehicles donated by the oil and gas company are too old.

The Information Commissioner for Akwa Ibom State Government, Charles Udoh, made this known in a statement while reacting to the donation two days after the state government had appreciated the gesture.

Udoh said the vehicles are too old to carry out the functions for which they were donated.

However, the state government accepted two ambulances and 20 hospital beds donated by the oil company "despite the fact that the ambulances are converted buses while the beds are below the standard of those currently in secondary healthcare facilities in the state." The statement seen by AllNews explained.

In the statement Udoh said, “The vehicles are considered too old and not in good enough operational conditions to withstand the rigour of contact tracing which they were meant to serve." The state government, however, appreciated the financial and material supports that corporate bodies and private individuals have been offering Akwa Ibom.

Akwa Ibom is one of the states in Nigeria with COVID-19 cases. The state have recorded 16 confirmed cases.
