Tech giant, Apple, has called off the scheduled on March 31, 2020, date for the launch of the latest iPhone amid growing fears about coronavirus.
The event which was planned to reveal the new, lower-priced version of the iPhone possibly to be called the iPhone 9 or iPhone SE2 was cancelled as a measure to reduce the risk of spreading the deadly coronavirus.
The event had also been expected to reveal an updated version of Apple’s popular iPad Pro.
Santa Clara County, where Apple is headquartered, recently banned events involving 1,000 or more people for the remainder of the month, and the report cited Apple’s concerns about spreading the virus as a “major factor”.
The postponement also arrives as the viral epidemic has wreaked havoc on Apple’s Chinese production lines.
Foxconn, which produces the iPhone, shuttered its factories in China for several weeks last month and expects to be back at full capacity by the end of March.
