UK national carrier British Airways has announced that it will be retiring its Boeing 747 jumbo jet fleet due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In a recent statement, the airline said, “It is with great sadness that we can confirm we are proposing to retire our entire 747 fleets with immediate effect.
“It is unlikely our magnificent ‘queen of the skies’ will ever operate commercial services for British Airways again due to the downturn in travel caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic.”
British Airways has 31 Jumbos in its fleet, making it the only airline with the most Boeing 747 in its fleet than another airline.

The company also stated that the last 747 had been due to retire in the year 2024 as it pivoted to fuel-efficient models.
The pandemic has caused companies to shutter, with Virgin Australia being acquired by an American company.
