An Italian woman dubbed 'Highlander' the immortal by doctors and nurses at a hospital where she was treated for coronavirus has survived it.
'Highlander', also known as Italica Grondona, is a 102-year-old woman who beat the odds of survival for people her age, scaling through into recovery, after being treated for 20 days.
According to medical professionals, aged people are the most susceptible demography affected by the COVID-19 virus.
The doctor who treated her said, “We nicknamed her ‘Highlander’ – the immortal.
“Italica represents a hope for all the elderly facing this pandemic.”
The doctor also added that Italica recovered on her own with "very little" efforts from the doctors.
According to Italy's National Health Institute, the average age of people who have tested psoitive for the virus and eventually die from it is 78.

Italica had been admitted at the onset of the month of March for a "mild heart failure" before tests revealed that she carried the COVID-19 virus.
“We got serological samples, she is the first patient we know that might have gone through the ‘Spanish flu’ since she was born in 1917,” the doctor said.
