In a statement issued by the Governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, via his Special Adviser on Media on Publicity, Christian Ita, the government of the state has odered a total lockdown in the state as a measure to curb the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria.
The statement says, “All the entry points into Cross River State (land, air, and water) are hereby locked down. Access will be based on passing a thorough screening regime."
Local Government Council elections in the state that have been scheduled for Saturday have been ordered to be suspended, too.
All educational bodies in the state have been ordered to shut down activities from Tuesday, with the suspension of activities running indefinitely.
Civil servants have been ordered to refrain from going in to work, except for those who provide essential services like revenue and medical officers, for at least two weeks.
Transporters have been urged to only accomodate two passengers on each seat and keep their vehicles disinfected.

“All transport companies must keep a travel manifest for inbound and outbound passengers. They must also provide hand washstands and hand sanitisers in their buses," the governor said.
“Passengers are consequently encouraged to wash their hands with soap and water and sanitise them before boarding.”
“The Commissioner for Health should immediately set up a COVID-19 ad-hoc monitoring unit to enforce compliance to all preventive measures as highlighted.
“The governor urges absolute compliance from our people with the above guidelines for our common safety, even as government ramps up efforts to ensure the state remains safe and COVID-19 free,” he added
