Coronavirus: Death Toll Hits 1,000

The coronavirus epidemic still gathers momentum as the death toll surges past 1000. The disease that broke out of a city in China, Wuhan, has, according to the Chinese State Media, accounted for 1,011 deaths globally.

Hong Kong and the Philippines have each recorded one death while mainland China records a total number of 42,300, while the number of people infected globally sits at 42,700.

On Sunday alone, China recorded 97 deaths.

Deaths from the coronavirus has surpassed that of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) that claimed the lives of 774 lives in 2003.

Countries with confirmed cases of the coronavirus are UK, Malaysia, Taiwan, Spain, Vietnam, Germany, UAE, France, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Canada, Australia, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Cambodia, and the United States, and it has been classified as a global emergency by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
