Coronavirus Forces British Parliament Shut Down

The coronavirus pandemic has forced the shut down of the British Parliament on Wednesday, although, some MPs were sent home before the shut down a week before ahead of the Easter celebration.

A tweet by the lower chamber states that, “The House of Commons has agreed to adjourn for Easter recess and will next sit on 21 April 2020.”

In an interview with BBC, the Housing Secretary, Robert Jenrick, said that the move was a "sensible" one, seeing as the whole country is on a lock down.

He added that he was “certain that parliament will return after the Easter holidays”, stating the importance for the MPs to examine the developments in the nations amid the pandemic.

A decree that would send British citizens into isolation had only just passed through the parliament and the MPs are hopeful that it would become law.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to face his opposition, Jeremy Corbyn, Labour leader, with Corbyn expected to step down from his role before the re-convening of parliament.

On the 4th of April, a new Labour leader is set to be announced.
