Coronavirus: Italy Records 5,986 Fresh Cases, 627 Deaths In

The rate of infection from coronavirus has doubled, as the country records 4,032 deaths from the outbreak of the virus, and in only 24 hours the European nation has recorded a 627 increase.

On Friday, the country recorded a total of 5,986 fresh cases, this is according to the Italian Civil Protection Agency. The fresh cases brings the number of infections in the country to 47,021.

Italy's infectiion rate surges past that of China, the country where the disease broke out from.

Nothing less than 2,629 health personnel have contracted the virus, which accounts for about 8 percent of the total number of infections.

The high number of recorded death cases in the country is due to Italy's demographics, as explained by Italy's minister of health, with Italy having the second oldest population, a demography that is said to be the most affected by the disease.

Globally, the cases of infection has risen to 250,000, with over 11,113 people dying from it, and 87,363 recovering.
