Coronavirus: Nigeria Receives Additional 100,000 Medical Mas

Nigeria has received an additional supply of 100,000 face masks donated by the Taiwanese Government and presented by the Representative of Taiwan in Nigeria, Vincent Yang.

The Taiwanese Government had donated 50,000 medical masks to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), and an extra 10,000 masks to the National Human Rights Commission.

According to the Taiwanese rep, the donation of the masks was a show of support to the Nigerian Government in supplying those in the frontline of the fight against the pandemic.

Yang said, ”Today, Taiwan is making another donation of medical masks to the Nigeria Ministry of Health. This donation is to support Nigeria’s effort in containing COVID-19.

”Taiwan is also willing to share her experiences in disease control with Nigeria. Taiwan has been able to contain the pandemic and minimise its impact on people’s lives and daily activities.

”We know that a strong defence against the virus can only be achieved globally through joint effort.”

Yang said that Taiwan has kept the spread of the virus under control, with Taiwan recording only 443 coronavirus cases, due to its stringent measures.

He also added that the country had made over 20 million donations of medical masks to countries like the United States and other countries, including countries in Europe.

Receiving the masks was the Chief Medical Director, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Prof. Chris Bode, with gratitude to the Taiwanese Government.

Bode said, ”On behalf of the Federal Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, we must thank the Taiwanese government for this gesture.

”We have received the masks for the Minister of Health, and we would let him know that. We must thank you for your support.”
