Coronavirus: Nigerian Senator Isolates Self After UK Trip

Coronavirus: Nigerian Senator Isolates Self After UK Trip

The senator representing Osun Central District at the National Assembly, Ajibola Bashir, announced that he is currently in self-isolation since his return from the United Kingdom.

Mr Bashir stated this in a tweet while reacting to a letter written by Abba Kyari,  the Chief of Staff to the President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Kyari alleged that lawmakers who embarked on a trip to the UK refused to take coronavirus precautionary steps.

Meanwhile, Mr Kyari, had reportedly tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday but President Buhari tested negative.

The Federal Government is yet to confirm nor deny the report about Mr Kyari's health status.

However, Mr Bashiru, a former Attorney General of Osun State and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora, Non-Governmental Organisations and Civil Society Organisations, noted that he had not attended any public event

“Contrary to the reports that all the Senators that travelled to the United Kingdom for the Petroleum Oil and Gas seminar have not complied with the protocol on precautionary steps on COVID-19, I have been in self-isolation since I returned from the UK."

“So, I have not been to the National Assembly or attended any business or function. Also, the National Center for Disease Control contacted my next of kin earlier today to know how I am faring. I am in good health and enjoying enough rest at home", his tweet read.

Allnews reports that Nigeria has recorded a total of 42 Covid-19 cases, two deaths, and two recoveries. The forty cases cut across patients from Abuja, Lagos, Edo, Oyo, Ekiti and Ogun states.
