Mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio, has announced plans to shut down nine neighbourhoods, as COVID-19 cases in the city see a spike.
Announcing the shutdown, de Blasio said that all nonessential businesses and schools will be shut in all nine neighbourhoods in Brooklyn and Queens.
“Today, unfortunately, is not a day for celebration,” he said.

Although, the plan to shut down the nine neighbourhoods will still need to be ratified by the state Governor Andrew Cuomo, making it the first significant reversal since the city experienced a surge in March.
The state has recorded a total of almost 24,000 coronavirus cases.
