Coronavirus: Spain Confirms 1,000 New Cases In 24 Hours

The Health ministry in Spain says the country has registered about 1000 new Coronavirus cases within the past 24 hours.

Allnews reports that this figure raises the number of cases to 8, 744.

According to the ministry’s emergency coordinator, Fernando Simon, the number of deaths also rose from nine to 297.

The figure for new cases was lower than weekend numbers, when 2,000 infections were detected between Saturday and Sunday and the number of deaths rose by around 100.

Of the total number, Madrid remains the worst-affected region, with 4,665 cases.

In order to curtail the virus, Spain shut all but essential services and ordered its population of 46 million people to stay at home.

However, people are only authorised to go out to buy food or medicine, to go to work or to get medical treatment.

Days ago, Spain’s equality minister has tested positive for coronavirus and was quarantined with her partner, deputy prime minister, and Podemos leader Pablo Iglesias, a government statement said Thursday.

“The minister (Irene Montero) is in a good condition and second deputy prime minister Pablo Iglesias is also in quarantine due to the situation,” the statement said.
