Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) first emerged in China in late 2019 and since its discovery, it has direly affected humanity, Allnews reports. The earliest victims did not take note of its symptoms.
The latest figures from public health authorities reveal there have been 224 confirmed cases and 5 deaths in Nigeria.
As at the time of publishing this report, more than 1.21 million cases of COVID-19 have been reported in over 200 countries and territories of the world resulting in approximately 65,700 deaths. More than 252,000 people have recovered.
The virus is known to cause pneumonia and those who have been struck by it have reported breathing difficulties, fever, and a cough.
But how do you know for sure if your sudden health challenge is linked to the dreaded COVID-19?
People may be sick with the virus for 1 to 14 days before developing symptoms.
The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough.
Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment.
More rarely, the disease can be serious and even fatal. Older people, and people with other medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), maybe more vulnerable to becoming severely ill, the World Health Organisation (WHO) educates.
