Coronavirus: Syria Records First Case

Syria is the latest, among many other territories, country to record a case of the novel coronavirus, this was announced by the government of the war-ravaged country.

According to the Minister of Health in Syria, Nizar Yaziji, Syria has “a first case of the coronavirus in Syria in a person coming from abroad," the country was left unspecified.

The carrier of the virus is a 20-year-old lady, and SANA, the state news agency stated that “the appropriate measures have been taken to deal with.”

Officials in the capital city of the country, Damascus, have taken steps to ensure that the virus spreads minimally by directing that institutions and entertainment places and religious organizations shut down their activities.

Reflecting on the country's war history and its place in it, a spokesperson for the World Health organization (WHO) said that the country's “fragile health systems may not have the capacity to detect and respond."
