Corps Member, Others Jailed Over $164 Fraud

Adamu Shaibu, a 28-year-old member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) working in Edo State's Igara Local Government Area has been sentenced to a nine-year jail term in Ilorin.

Olasupo Abdullateef Olawale, Aguh Henry Chicherem, Ridwan Abiodun Abdulganiyu, and Qozeem Shuaib were also jailed alongside Adamu. 

They were all charged by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice Adebayo Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin.

Adamu was found guilty along with four others for using a cash app to defraud one Baraman of the sum of USD 164.

The five accused were each arraigned on a different charge, and they all pleaded guilty. 

The judge also sentenced Olasupo to three years in prison on each of the two counts that were brought against him, with the option of paying a fine of N1,043,171 for count one and N10,840,574.86 for count two.

The judge ordered the defendant to give the federal government his two phones and one MacBook, which he used to commit the crime.

Aguh, on the other hand, was sentenced to two years in prison or a fine of N400,000. 

Additionally, his 2014 Toyota Camry, Mac iPad Pro, Samsung S9, and iPhone 6S are to be forfeited.

 Furthermore, Justice Sani ordered the seizure of one Infinix phone that Ridwan used as a crime's tool and sentenced him to a two-year prison term with the option of a N200,000 (two hundred thousand naira) fine.

Justice Yusuf gave Qozeem a six-month prison term with a N100,000 (one hundred thousand naira only) fine as an alternative.
