Council Elections: Lagos, Ogun Deploys Police Officers, Warn

The Lagos and Ogun State Police Command have deployed officers and material resources to provide adequate security before, during, and after Saturday local council election in the states.

They also warned they would not tolerate violence and thuggery among politicians and their supporters.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu stated that directives were given to the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that all Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC)’s facilities, sensitive materials, polling units, and collation centres are adequately protected.

Odumosu also warned politicians and their supporters, stakeholders and residents of the state to play the game according to the rules.

The police commissioner stressed that the command had put measures in place to enforce the restriction of movement across the state between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. But AllNews Nigeria observed that as of 8:00 a.m, motorists were still moving along Egbeda, inward Ikeja, Oshodi axis despite men of the force at strategic locations.

Similarly, the Ogun State Police Command has deploy special weapons and tactics, anti-kidnapping and anti-cultism and police mobile force teams for the local government election in the state.

Although the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission had announced that movement would be restricted between 8 am and 2 pm on Saturday while the election lasts.
