A court has declared that the son of Moammar Gadhafi, Seif Al Islam Gadhafi can compete in the upcoming presidential elections, to take place in the country. The court has now overturned the decision by the country's top electoral body to disqualify him for the presidential race.
Last week, the Libya’s High National Elections Committee had disqualified Gadhafi from the race, citing his past crimes and convictions. It should also be noted that the court had been unable to hear Gadhafi’s appeal after the court building was surrounded by armed men who prevented judges from entering.
Seif al-Islam had been sentenced to death by a Tripoli court in 2015 and he is also wanted by the International Criminal Court on charges of crimes against humanity.
