Court Gives Tenant A Month Quit Notice Over Debt

Court Gives Tenant A Month Quit Notice Over Debt

An Upper Area Court sitting in Ilorin on Tuesday ordered a tenant, Olanrewaju Hakeem, to vacate his apartment within one month for refusal to pay his rent.

The presiding Judge, Moshood Ajibade, gave the order after the complainant, Isiaka Kamaldeen, the caretaker of the property, told the court that the tenant refused to pay his rent for 11 months.

Kamaldeen said that the tenant was supposed to pay N1,500 monthly as house rent but had been giving different excuses and promised on many occasions to pay his debt but refused.

“I have seen another person who is interested in the apartment and also ready to pay regularly, so Mr Hakeem should vacate the apartment,” the complainant said.

However, the tenant prayed the court to grant him the opportunity to stay for a month to enable him secure another apartment.

The court granted the tenant’s plea and gave him one month to pack his belongings out of the one-room apartment and pay his N18,000 debt.
