Court Jails Businessman For Six Months For Fertiliser Adulte

A Jigawa State Mobile Court presided over by Magistrate Mannir Sarki Abdullahi has jailed one Baffa Haruna Turaki to six months or to pay a fine of N80,000 for adulterating fertiliser.

Haruna Turaki, a resident of Hadejia local government, Jigawa State was arrested on 4th June 4, 2022, by personnel of Nigeria Civil Defence Corps.

He was arrested when he was about to sell an adulterated bag of NPK fertiliser at the Agricultural produce and grains market in Hadejia and was discovered to be mixed with sand.

Upon his arraignment he pleaded guilty.

Acccording to the prosecution, the act of Baffa contravened Section 184 of Penal Code Law.

The Court consquently sentenced him to six months in custodial facility or to pay the option of N80,000 as fine.

The presiding magistrate similarly jailed Baffa for three weeks in custodial facility without a fine option.

He ordered the convict to sign a bond that he would be of good behavior and if breached, will serve three months in custodial facility in case of default.

The exhibits recovered were seized and disposed by the court.

In a statement by CSC Adamu Shehu, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, explained that  an investigation led to the discovery of seven (7) additional bags of similar adulterated fertilisers in the convict's possession.
