The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the administration of booster doses of COVID-19 vaccines across the country on Friday.
According to the Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Faisal Shuaib, eligibility criteria for taking the booster dose includes any person that is 18 years and above.
A time interval of 6 months or more is required after receiving the second dose of AstraZeneca, Moderna or Pfizer Bio-N-Tech, while a time interval of 2 months or more is required after receiving the Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
The healthcare boss explained that the booster dose gives greater protection against the virus and urged all Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
He, therefore, called on eligible Nigerians to visit the nearest health facility or mass vaccination centres across the country.
Nigeria is one of the countries to have recorded the new Omicron variant of COVID-19, with six cases reported so far.
Currently, the infection toll stands at 215,918, while the fatality toll from the disease stands at 2,981.
