COVID-19: Africa Records Over 115,000 Coronavirus Cases

A report by the World Health Organisation (WHO), states that coronavirus cases in Africa, as of 26 May, have climbed to more than 115,000.

This was disclosed by the WHO Regional Office for Africa in Congo, via its official Twitter handle.

It tweeted, “There are over 115,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent – with more than 46,000 recoveries and 3,400 deaths."

According to the report, Nigeria, South Africa, and Algeria have the highest confirmed cases of the virus on the continent.

Giving figures from each country, the report stated that South Africa has a total of 23,615 cases and 418 deaths, Algeria, 8,503 cases with 609 deaths; Nigeria, 8,068 with 233 deaths.

Nigeria is closely followed by Ghana (6,808 cases with 32 deaths), Cameroon (4,890 cases with 165 fatalities).

African nations with small numbers are Seychelles, Namibia, and Lesotho.

Globally, the coronavirus pandemic has infected over 5.4 million people, with 344,000 fatalities, this is according to data drawn from John Hopkins University.
