COVID-19: Bolsonaro Tests Positive Again

COVID-19: Bolsonaro Tests Positive Again

Days after taking another coronavirus test, Brazil President, Jair Bolsonaro, has tested positive again for the virus.

Bolsonaro had said that his one week in isolation had become unbearable for him, causing him to take another test that gave the confirmation that he still was positive.

In a broadcast on Facebook, Bolsonaro had said, “I’m fine, thank God. Yesterday morning, I took the test, and in the evening the result was that I am still positive for the coronavirus."

He maintains that he isn't experiencing any of the coronavirus-associated symptoms and that the hydroxychloroquine drug that had been administered "worked."

He said, “I am not recommending anything. I recommend that you talk to your doctor. In my case, a military doctor recommended hydroxychloroquine, and it worked."

Bolsonaro, 65, is to remain in quarantine, as he falls within the age group that is most at risk, the office of the president said.

Although still not recommended for use by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for use on coronavirus patients, Bolsonaro maintains that the use of the drug had been helpful in his treatment.

Bolsonaro has oftentimes been seen ignoring social distancing guidelines, and sometimes not wearing a face mask when in public, meeting his supporters.

Brazil remains the second worst-hit country in the world and the worst hit in the Latin America region, with over 1.9 million cases and more than 74,000 deaths.
