The South American giant, Brazil, on Friday, recorded 27,878 deaths from the novel coronavirus, as disclosed by government officials, rising past Spain and earning it the country with the fifth-largest fatalities from the disease.
Brazil, positioned as the epicentre of the South American region, recorded 1,124 deaths in 24 hours, as disclosed by the health ministry.
It recorded 26,928 cases in one day, making the total number of infections in the country 465,166, falling far behind the United States that has a total of 1.7 million cases.

Spain recorded 27,121 fatalities, with the number of deaths in the country slowing down, with Brazil's cases moving to rise past France (28,714 fatalities).
Health experts in Brazil say that “There is no way to foresee” when the country will experience its peak, and that the number of cases recorded might be 15 times less than the actual figure.
