COVID-19: Brazil's President Can't Stand Isolation

COVID-19: Brazil's President Can't Stand Isolation

An anti-stay-at-home figure, Jair Bolsonaro, the Brazilian President, says that his one week in isolation is unbearable, as he "can't stand" it.

Bolsonaro tested positive for coronavirus almost a week ago, immediately self-isolating, and announced plans to take a new test that "should be out in a few hours, and I will wait quite anxiously because I can’t stand this routine of staying at home. It’s horrible."

Bolsonaro has been noted to diminish the gravity of the deadly virus that has infected over 13 million people globally, criticising local government authorities who have ordered their residents to stay at home as a measure of protection against a viral spread.

Bolsonaro, in an interview with CNN Brazil claims that he was feeling "very well," and that he had none of the symptoms associated with the disease.

He said, “Tomorrow, I don’t know if the new test will confirm (the virus), but if everything is fine, I’ll go back to work. Of course, if it’s the other way around, I’ll wait a few more days.

“Otherwise everything is fine. We are working by videoconference all the time and we are doing our best not to let things accumulate.”

Brazil's coronavirus infection cases are only second to the United States, with a total of 1.8 million cases and more than 72,000 deaths.

A champion of hydroxychloroquine that has been said to increase mortality rates in coronavirus patients, Bolsonaro said that he had begun taking the drug every day.

He said, “I took (hydroxychloroquine) and it worked, and I’m fine, thank God. And let those who criticize it at least offer an alternative."
