Covid-19: Buhari Ministers To Receive Half Salaries In March

The forty-three cabinet ministers of President Muhammadu Buhari have donated fifty percent of their March salaries to combat coronavirus.

This was first disclosed by a Personal Assistant to Mr Buhari, Bashir Ahmad on Saturday.

According to Ahmad, the information was contained in a statement issued in Abuja.

"FLASH: Nigeria's 43 Cabinet Ministers have donated 50% of their March 2020 salaries to support the Federal Government's efforts to combat the #COVID19 pandemic in the country, Information Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed discloses the gesture in a statement issued today in Abuja," He wrote on Twitter.

Nonetheless, in the statement later obtained, Allnews gathered that the Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, will coordinate the donation.

The information minister, however, refused to disclose what the 50% amounted to. The statement further quoted Saraki as saying it was a gesture of solidarity and support for the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle the disease.

”This global virus outbreak will require nations, continents and smaller communities to pull together to contribute their resources and support one another.

“This will facilitate an early resolution of the problem,” the statement read in parts.

As of Saturday morning, the country has recorded eighty-one confirmed cases of the infection. Lagos state, however, accounts for majority of the cases recorded.

It should be noted that some wealthy individuals and corporate ventures in Nigeria have donated to the fight against the pandemic.
