China on Sunday reopens its borders after a three-year-long isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
After three years, China opened the sea and land crossings with Hong Kong and ended a requirement for incoming travelers to quarantine.
Long queues were formed at the Hong Kong international airport's check-in counters on Sunday for flights to mainland cities including Beijing, Tianjin and Xiamen.
China on Sunday also resumed issuing passports and travel visas for mainland residents, and ordinary visas and residence permits for foreigners.
Health officials has said they would not rule out the possibility of taking emergency COVID prevention measures such as suspending nonessential large-scale activities and business at large entertainment venues to deal with large outbreaks.
